Frequently Asked Questions

I made this little FAQ for people who are curious about how I work

Yes. However, in the portraits on the site of pop culture personalities, their depictions are taken from photographs. Also, some of the acrylic transfers are replicated from larger paintings or other work I have done. Additionally I make acrylic transfers from old photographs that I repair and colorize. Background are generated by color field works I’ve made over the years.

I use; acrylic paint, pastels, basswood, pine, poplar, oak, watercolor paper, Strathmore Chromalux, paper, enamel paint, oil & acrylic markers, a variety of spray paints, pencil and charcoal, plus.

I am visually stimulated by the world around me, by nature (especially as it collides with man-made structures), by conversations, by contradictions, by love, and by friends. Pop culture, especially from my youth and formative years. Musicians from all genres and generations fascinate me!

It depends, could be anywhere between 3-6 weeks.

It’s a toss up between Edmonia Lewis and Caravaggio.

Early on I knew what I did best was create. I have been making art my whole life and taught art for over ten years (although teaching art and making art require different skills). My pursuit of creating is the one constant in my life and what makes me happiest! I could not stop it if I wanted to. And, who doesn’t want to be happy?

Who we are & what we do

MUST WE DO THESE THINGS WE DO THESE THINGS BECAUSE WE MUST WE DO THESE THINGS WE DO THESE THINGS BECAUSE WE MUST

If one is a creative in this world the way must be found to honor that. In having a conversation with someone recently about my art, I mentioned that there are a great many artists that do not sell in galleries. That many creators do so in seclusion. I’ve come to find that the romantic notion of an artist being “discovered” by a benevolent patron or gallery; that this is The Way, is the stuff of movies. This may be for some. I believe that there are many travelers like me, however.  I make art because I must. It satisfies a drive within. I have to express what I see, what I feel yet have no words for. No matter my situation or circumstances, I make art. In fact, I believe I could create on the head of a pin!
